Why can't I open a HEIC file?
HEIC is the format iPhones use to save photos — it stores the same picture in about half the space of a JPG. The trade-off is that plenty of software still can't read it: older Windows PCs, print shops, government upload forms and a lot of web apps all expect JPG. Converting to JPG makes the photo open anywhere.
Why is my JPG bigger than the original?
That's expected. HEIC compresses more efficiently than JPEG, so the same image usually takes more space as a JPG. It isn't a loss of quality — it's the cost of a format that everything can open. Lowering the quality slider brings the size back down.
Do you upload my photos?
No. The conversion runs inside your browser using WebAssembly, so the image data never travels anywhere. You can confirm it: open your browser's developer tools, convert a file and watch the Network tab stay empty — or simply switch off your wifi and convert anyway. There is no server here to receive a photo.
